THE SPIRITUAL CHICKS QUESTION EVERYTHING:
Learn to Risk, Release, and Soar (Red Wheel/Weiser,
October 2002), authors and teachers Tami Coyne and Karen Weissman have
taken their unique "kick-ass" viewpoints and created a
compendium of questions designed to give seekers entrée to a fulfilling
life of "everyday enlightenment."
Tami, a lifelong student of music, languages, and spirituality, is
motivated by passion. Karen,
with her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, is more analytical.
Together, they defy the myth that left- and right-brainers can't be
partners to present a balanced look at "real-world
spirituality." The
Chicks define spirituality as the process of exploring our connection to
the universe at large—or, more precisely, to the energy that holds the
universe together and makes our hair grow all at the same time.
That energy—variously called power, consciousness, spirit, or
God—is described fairly consistently across spiritual traditions as
supremely intelligent, omniscient, and all-pervasive.
It takes many forms, from rocks and trees to terrorists and Supreme
Court justices. As such,
everything is spiritual, including us and our mundane lives.
Asking questions is the process the Spiritual Chicks recommend as a
way to break down limiting beliefs, access our innate creativity, and find
our own truth, through tapping what they call the One Life Principle. THE
SPIRITUAL CHICKS QUESTION EVERYTHING guides
the reader through the One Life Principle by questioning the most common
myths about who we are and how we ought to behave...the nature of
reality...and the meaning of enlightenment itself.
Questions (and routes to your own answers) range from "Do I
need God's approval?" to "If time is a relative concept, why do
we let it dictate our lives so absolutely?" "Is there sex after
death?" and even, "Why do I think I need to do something?"
To the Chicks, nothing is sacred; and everything is.
There is no right or wrong; only what's right or wrong for you.
Their questions take the mystery out of mysticism and put the
physics back in metaphysics, making the most esoteric principles
accessible to all. And once we
come to know we are the One Life, we can allow it to flow through
us to create lives of more peace, fulfillment, and joy. Coyne
and Weissman met in 1994 through Concept-Therapy—a course of study that
emphasizes the underlying unity between science and spirituality and
offers practical solutions to real-life problems.
Since 1999, they have collaborated as The Spiritual Chicks.
In addition to their book, the Chicks' work includes web content
and public lectures, offering their own brand of funky spiritual attitude
to the world at large. (Samples
available at their web site: www.spiritualchicks.com.) "Everything
is spiritual," the Chicks tell us, "even stuff that you don't
like or don't agree with. Question
everything, but condemn nothing, then decide what you want and align
yourself with it. If we can
manage these three steps, we find that our personal power is the power of
the universe, and life can be pretty great."
By turning everything we thought we knew on its ear, The Spiritual
Chicks will help readers come to realize that we already are what we have
been trying to become or thought we could never be. **** THE
