WHO ARE THE SPIRITUAL CHICKSSM

For authors and lecturers, Tami Coyne (pictured on right) and Karen Weissman, a.k.a. The Spiritual Chicks, no topic is "unspiritual." With collectively more than twenty years of training in metaphysics they break with spiritual convention by questioning everything from age old institutions to personal beliefs in a nonjudgmental way that gets people thinking for themselves. The Chicks met in 1994 through Concept-Therapy-a course of study that emphasizes the underlying unity between science and spirituality and offers practical solutions to real-life problems-and began collaborating in 1999. In addition to THE SPIRITUAL CHICKS QUESTION EVERYTHING: Learn to Risk, Release and Soar (Red Wheel/Weiser, October 2002), their work includes web content and public lectures, offering their own brand of funky spiritual attitude to the world at large. (Samples of their unique point of view may be found at their web site www.spiritualchicks.com.)

The Spiritual Chicks believe that questions don't disappear on the spiritual path: they are the path, bringing us to the place where the real answers are. Each concluded this using a different side of the brain.

After working in marketing, management, and executive recruiting, Rev. Dr. Tami Coyne (the right-brainer pictured at right) began to notice clear attitude distinctions between those who loved their work, and those who struggled with the daily grind. This prompted her to write YOUR LIFE'S WORK: A Guide to Creating a Spiritual and Successful Work Life (Berkley, 1998). Tami has presented seminars based on her book, was a featured essayist at ManagementGeneral.com, and has hosted on-line chats for iVillage.com. She has also appeared on radio and has made frequent guest appearances on the on-line program WellNet with Carolyn. Tami is also a featured essayist in the anthology IF WOMEN RULED THE WORLD: How to Create the World We Want to Live In, edited by Sheila Ellison (Inner Ocean, 2004). She is a passionate “spiritual activist” and her essays on this topic have been featured in the Mindshift Institute’s eJournal (www.mindshiftinstitute.org), RagicalSages.com, and in InnerSelf Magazine (www.innerself.com). In addition to writing and lecturing, Tami is a spiritually oriented career and life coach. An ordained interfaith minister, she is a graduate of Smith College and has a doctorate in Divinity from All Faiths Seminary and Commonwealth Open University. More information on her ministry can be found at www.TamiCoyne.com. Tami lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.

Karen Weissman, Ph.D. (the left-brainer pictured on the left) holds a doctorate in Civil Engineering from Princeton University. She began her career as a research scientist working on noise and vibration problems in everything from consumer products to NASA's spacecraft launches, eventually becoming an engineering consultant and, later, Vice President of Corporate Development at a technology start-up. She has spoken at technical conferences, including meetings of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Acoustical Society of America. The more Karen studied physical phenomena, the more she was convinced that the same "energy" drives everything. This led to an interest in metaphysics. In addition to her more than 15 years in technology development, Karen is a certified Concept-Therapy instructor, and teaches regularly in New York City, where she lives with her husband.
