A Coupla Spiritual Chicks Sittin' Around Talkin' |
|
Tami Coyne and Karen Weissman have their heads on straight, their feet on the ground, and wicked senses of humor. Is this any way to run a spirituality web site? "You
think there's life after death?" "I dunno, but I'm really hoping there's sex after death!" Tami
Coyne and Karen Weissman are the Spiritual
ChicksSM. And they mean business. Spiritual business. Spiritual
business? These
two entrepreneurial women—one a right-brain career counselor and
celebrated author, the other a left-brain engineer, both long-time
students of the metaphysical—are in the business of providing
"atypical" media content of a spiritual nature. And they have a
new book coming out where they answer the kind of questions you've always
wanted to ask about spirituality, but that would have gotten you kicked
out of catechism class or the meditation center. The
Chicks aren't talking angels, Reiki, Jesus, or meditation. At least,
that's not all they're talking about. So
what makes the Spiritual Chicks so spiritual? "Spirituality
is simply the way each of us explores our fundamental connection to the
universe at large," say Coyne and Weissman. "It is not something
that can be imposed by doctrine. Spirituality must be experienced, for
only then can we know it, feel it and apply it. And what better way
to experience it than through our own lives?" In
other words: "Many of us, including experienced seekers,
sometimes feel disqualified from being spiritual because we are: atheist,
too religious, unsure, angry, fat, too rich, poor, unruly, too logical,
not intellectual enough---in short, human. The Spiritual Chicks contend
that being human does not preclude us from being spiritual. Spirituality
is everywhere and in everything." The
Spiritual Chicks' columns will make you laugh. And think. And
question. And confirm your own beliefs--or not--as they discuss
things both lofty and practical, from parenting to politics. Recent
topics include: ·
If time is an illusion, why is my past still pissing me off? ·
Do I Need a Guru to be on the Spiritual Path? ·

What's the Spiritual Side of the Party Platforms? Think
you know the answers? You do; as the Chicks might put it, that's the
point. But as for their "atypical content for all
media"... be prepared for something completely different. Spiritual
