The Spiritual ChicksSM
Speak Out! |
|
Communing with nature? Singing? Meditating? Praying in a holy place? These are all great, but what about the other 90% of our lives when we can't shut ourselves off from other people, places, situations and things, or don't want to? When we say that spirituality is not beyond real life, it is real life, this means we've got to look for our spiritual selves in the everyday and still function in the everyday. It seems daunting, or counterintuitive, but doing it is it's own reward. When we live in the moment and take the time to really connect with what's going on around us, it's a real rush. Anyone can feel spiritual in church, but until we can say "I really reached Nirvana with my family this Thanksgiving," or, "I feel so connected to you after negotiating that contract," we don't know what we're missing. All of our problems don't magically disappear when we're on the spiritual path, but when our goal is to merge the spiritual path with our own lives then those "problems" take on a whole new meaning. So take the challenge, appreciate that traffic jam for the extra time it gives you to relax on the way to work, and marvel at those beautiful roads that your hard-earned tax dollars helped to create. At the very least, you will have been cheerful instead of miserable, and who knows what insight might come to you along the way. |
