For
many of us across the country who have been glued to the television for
the latest news of the recovery effort and the aftermath of the terrorist
strike, the last two weeks has been the most stressful and depressing time
of our lives. But for those
people personally affected by the events, those who survived the attack or
those who lost a loved one, life has been pure hell.
How do any of us make sense of this horrible and senseless act
without resorting to hatred or despair?
How do we cope with grief, uncertainty and survivor guilt while
trying to pick up the pieces of our lives at the same time?
In times of great confusion and doubt, we naturally tend to focus
all of our energy on our pain and forget that we still have access to the
powerful energy of faith, kindness, hope, patience, courage, and love.
It’s not easy to access this energy when all seems lost, and may
not seem possible until we’ve honestly and openly expressed our worries
and fears, but when we doubt we’ll be able to heal, we need only
remember the positive, life-affirming energy we’ve all seen exhibited by
the firefighters, police officers and volunteers in the recovery effort.
Death and destruction are powerful, but the creative energy of life
is a million times stronger and always prevails. We
each have the power to put this energy in motion.
If you’ve lost a loved one, as difficult it is to imagine now,
time and love will ultimately heal your pain. If you’ve lost your
apartment or your job, it may take a little time, but you’ll find
another. Relax, reach out, and
rejoice. Better days are
coming.
