Well,
it could take a very long time because there is nothing unnatural or
supernatural under the sun, over the sun or anywhere else. By
definition, if we perceive it and it’s happening, then it’s of nature.
The more comfortable we get with this idea, the better able we are to
navigate life in this wonderful and natural universe.
The
declaration that nothing is supernatural is not just a matter of
semantics. It comes from profound insights that various, um,
profound and insightful people have had down through the ages.
Flying machines were supernatural until the Wright Brothers made them
work. Bacteria was a supernatural killer demon until people got a
handle on how to clean things up and eventually kill the little buggers.
Giving birth was a natural thing until it became a hospital thing, at
which point it then became almost supernatural to have babies the "natural"
way. Get the picture?
Life
and our perceptions of it are always changing as we grow, evolve,
sometimes digress, and then move forward again. We see and
experience things when the time is right. To assume that something
is supernatural because our minds can’t yet perceive or explain it, is
to cut ourselves off from our own divinity and potential to understand.
It’s like seeing a magic trick that seemingly defies the laws of matter.
Children are content to believe it is "magic," and many adults are
satisfied to remain in awe of the illusion or to write it off as a silly
hoax not worth pursuing. But the person who wants to create their
own magic show is not satisfied until he or she understands how to operate
every trap door and hidden string that make it all possible. Life is
the same way, by opening our minds and hearts to all that is possible, we
set ourselves up to understand how to harmonize with the laws of the
universe. We may not get all the information right away, but when
we’re ready, what makes itself known to us is nothing short of natural.
