The Spiritual ChicksSM Speak Out!
Looking for signs of intelligent life in the universe?

Often the pursuit of spirituality focuses on events of biblical, or even better, Hollywood proportions.  Ever on the lookout for floods, virgin births, or loved ones returning from the dead to guide us, we have difficulty appreciating that a flower blooming, a headache, or any of life’s subtleties are hard evidence that we are in direct contact with the creative power of the universe.  Our blindness to these details is so prevalent that it’s actually cliché.   In a recent movie ad, Cameron Diaz asks life for a sign about whether to pursue the guy she likes.  All the while, she’s sitting on a huge picture of him that she doesn’t see.

Want a sign that the universe is logical and orderly?  Just watch a group of ants as they disassemble their harvest and carry it home with the precision of a well-choreographed assembly line.  Want to know if there’s a universal intelligence bigger than our human minds?  Just look out at the cosmos or zoom in on a single celled organism reproducing itself.  Want proof that this universal intelligence runs through you?  Watch your fingernails grow, or see your skin heal after a cut.  And, if you have any doubt that you can direct this power, take notice of how romantic a rainy day feels when you’re in love, versus how annoying it feels when you’re angry or depressed.  Transforming the world around us is that simple.

It’s true that the power of nature is really large, but the fact that it flows through us even while we do the smallest things shouldn’t be ignored because it seems too pedestrian.  So the next time you recover from a cold, feel that crick in your neck after stressing over some problem, or make yourself a bologna sandwich---think to yourself, "That was the orderly universe working through me!"  And know that with proper attention and a bit of patience you can use that same power to tackle any of life’s challenges.
